Board Members

John Tredennick (Chair)

John Tredennick is our founder and CEO. For twenty years he practiced complex commercial litigation as a partner at Holland & Hart, the largest law firm in the Rockies. While he no longer practices law, he remains active with the Law Practice Management and Litigation Sections of the American Bar Association and regularly speaks and writes on legal topics. In 2009, Tredennick was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Technology in the Rocky Mountain Region and will be among those considered for the national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. In 2009 he was also named the Top Technology Entrepreneur by the Colorado Software and Internet Association.

Tyler C. Newton

Tyler is a Partner at Catalyst Investors, a growth-focused private equity firm based in New York. Tyler leads Catalyst’s research efforts.  He is responsible for evaluating industry sectors, formulating sector investment strategies, generating deal flow in target sectors and providing strategic support to Catalyst portfolio companies.  He also evaluates and leads portfolio investments, with a focus on software-as-a-service, digital media and internet infrastructure.

Tyler currently serves on the Boards of Codero (as Chairman), MINDBODY, BLI Messaging and Catalyst Repository Systems and previously served on the Boards of TCP Communications, Oneida Communications and Nine Systems.

Prior to joining Catalyst in 2000, Tyler was a Vice President in Toronto Dominion Bank's Media, Telecom & Technology Group. He earned a BA, with honors, in Economics from Middlebury College and is also a CFA Charter holder.

Raymond D. Croghan

Raymond D. Croghan is currently the Managing Partner of Croghan & Associates, LLC, an investment and consulting firm located in Longmont, Colorado. He also serves on the Board of Directors of several software companies.

Previously, in 1980, Mr. Croghan joined a small high technology company called Applied Communications, Inc. (ACI) as a systems engineer. In 1988, he assumed the role of President of ACI. During his tenure, ACI grew to become the leading supplier of on-line Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) software to the world's largest financial institutions. With over 280 large bank customers in forty-two countries, it held better than 50% of the market share in that segment of the EFT marketplace.

In 1991, Mr. Croghan oversaw the purchase of ACI by Tandem Computers. He then started Croghan & Associates, Inc., with the mission to transfer the EFT technology used in financial networks to the health care industry. To accomplish this, Mr. Croghan assembled a balanced team of employees from different backgrounds including banking, healthcare, information technology and telecommunications. This diversified team of professionals possessed the collective ability to bring innovative and cost-effective products and services to the health care marketplace.

In late 1993, Mr. Croghan facilitated the purchase of Croghan & Associates by BANC ONE CORPORATION, a major financial services company with an extensive EFT network. In 1995, the new company, System One, acquired the Health Care Processing System (HPS) division of DHI Computing Service, Inc., based in Provo, Utah. In late 1996, Mr. Croghan initiated and directed the management-led buyout of System One from BANC ONE CORPORATION.

In early 1997, System One merged with Margolis Health Enterprises to form The TriZetto Group, a company which provides outsourced information services for the business of healthcare. The TriZetto Group completed a successful Initial Public Offering in October, 1999. Although he is no longer involved in the daily operations of the company, Mr. Croghan continues to be a significant shareholder of The TriZetto Group.

Mr. Croghan received a Bachelors degree in Mathematics in 1972 from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. He now serves on the Board of Trustees at Doane.

Ed Williams

Mr. Williams is Catalyst’s President and a senior executive with a distinguished career in directing expansion stage and large, high growth technology companies to exceptional profitability and operational effectiveness.

Over the past 20 years he has held senior executive positions in technology services, software development, and computer hardware companies, accumulating strong expertise in channel strategies, direct sales, marketing, operations, finance and equity capital management.

During an eight year tenure at Apple Computer, Mr. Williams led channel strategy development and operational turn-arounds of various business units including the restructuring of an $830 million consumer operation, delivering 66% first year growth, and the division's highest profitability.

Mr. Williams was most recently the CEO of an early stage battery technology company called Firefly Energy, which spun out from promising research done at Caterpillar.   Prior to that, he led early and expansion stage CRM and Content Management software companies, advancing these organizations to exceptional market traction, growth, funding, and subsequent acquisition. Mr. Williams was also a CEO in Residence with Arch Venture Partners in Chicago, where he served on the board of portfolio companies and provided strategic and operational consulting. Mr. Williams graduated Cum Laude with his Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting & Economics and received his MBA in Finance and Marketing both from the University of Detroit. He is also a Certified Public Accountant and is a guest lecturer at the University of Colorado undergraduate and graduate business schools.

Todd Clapp

Todd is a Partner at Catalyst Investors, a growth-focused private equity firm based in New York. He is responsible for originating and executing investment opportunities in the internet infrastructure, digital media, wireless communications, and business and consumer services sectors.

Todd currently serves on the boards of InSite Wireless, Latisys, Barrett Xplore (Observer) and Catalyst Repository Systems, and oversees Catalyst’s investment in Denali Spectrum Manager.

Prior to joining Catalyst in 2004, Todd was an investment professional at Lightyear Capital, a growth and buyout private equity firm. He previously worked as an Associate at UBS / PaineWebber in the Principal Transactions Group, which invested in and managed a portfolio of private equity and alternative investments on behalf of the firm and its clients.  He received a BA from McGill University and an MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business where he graduated with honors as a Beta Gamma Sigma scholar.
