This position is a Systems Administrator on the Infrastructure team of the Engineering Department. This Systems Administrator reports to the Manager of Infrastructure. Qualified candidates have real world experience as a Systems Administrator in a business environment and are able to describe fundamentals of computer science.
Responsibilities:
- Daily administration of Windows, Linux, and VMWare ESX systems for hardware and base level OS issues. This includes physical access to systems in the data center, hardware installations, software installations, device changes, the initial configuration of systems, and ongoing maintenance.
- Troubleshooting of failed systems, including their repair and replacement.
- Regular travel to data centers within the metro area, and some physical lifting of hardware is required.
- Midnight maintenance window work as often as once a week.
- Participation in a semi weekly on call rotation is expected, as is a daily presence in the office for a scheduled work week.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must have a solid understanding of standard x86 server hardware components.
- Must be able to install Linux and Microsoft operating systems, this includes the ability to deal with weird drivers and create an initial configuration for remote accessibility.
- Must have some experience provisioning virtual machine entities.
- Candidates are very familiar with Windows update services and/or RHEL software subscription services.
- Past “Help Desk” or user support experience (this is not a help desk position).
