Most e-discovery products run on a single server or, at most, a couple of servers. They do ok for smaller volumes of documents. When cases get larger, they tend to slow to a crawl, which can be frustrating for the user and costly for the client.
Our platform is different. We use scores of servers and deploy them in grids to share the load, much like Google does. That makes our systems fast, as fast as any in the industry. It also ensures that we can provide the power you need to manage the largest litigation, insurance and regulatory matters.
Catalyst was the first and is still one of the only grid-based e-discovery platforms on the market. Why should that matter? Because e-discovery volumes are growing exponentially—cases that used to have tens of thousands of documents now have millions. Older software products, originally designed to run on a desktop computer, have trouble keeping up.
The Catalyst grid contains hundreds of servers and thousands of processors across multiple data centers. Through our distributed servers we can provide sub-second response, even for massive, complex searches. Redundancy is unmatched, with multiple front-end web servers, replicated search clusters, mirrored SANS and a virtualized services grid for processing, conversions and productions.
We employ one of the most sophisticated search grids in the industry. Each search is spread across multiple servers arrayed in a redundant fashion. Searches run simultaneously against all the servers in the grid, with results coming back almost instantly. Should any one search server fail for any reason, there is second redundant server also on line to deliver results. As a result, our search grid is never offline even when we are adding new documents.
We tune our clusters to ensure we can deliver sub-second response even for complex queries involving millions of documents. Years ago, when we first deployed our search grid, we asked one of the preeminent search consulting companies, New Idea Engineering, to check our work.
The New Idea experts measured search speed against 15 million documents containing approximately 60 million pages. The tests involved some 200,000 queries of between 500 and 750 terms. Fully 99.9065% came back in under a second. Most of the rest came back in under 2 seconds. You can read their report here.
Our grid extends beyond search and runs throughout our systems. When you choose Catalyst, you get the power of our services platform, which is optimized to handle your requests across the e-discovery life-cycle:
Catalyst's services platform offers virtually unlimited scalability, capable of handling the largest (and smallest) requests your team can make.
By delivering our software through secure grids of computers, we ensure that our clients have all the power they need to manage complex litigation and regulatory requests. From processing and productions to search, analytics and review, modern e-discovery systems require more power than the older desktop systems were ever intended to provide. Speed and scalability running to the millions of documents are the watchwords for big cases today. To get there you need the power of a grid. That's the Catalyst advantage.
