John Tredennick's Fifth Legal Technology Book Helps Lawyers Use Spreadsheet Technology in the Practice of LawDenver, Colorado, September 5, 2008-Catalyst Repository Systems today announced that the American Bar Association is publishing John Tredennick's fifth legal technology book this month. The book, entitled The Lawyer's Guide to Microsoft Excel 2007, was written as a hands on guide for novice and veteran Excel users alike. Starting from the most basic, it takes the reader through formulas, charts, sorting, filtering and more using real-life examples from Tredennick's legal practice. "I wrote this book to show lawyers how to make the most of the software they already have," said Tredennick. "I began working with Excel to create visual exhibits for my cases, but I soon discovered how easy the formulas were to analyze numbers and began using Excel day to day." The Lawyer's Guide to Excel is published by the American Bar Association. Learn more about the book and read excerpts on the ABA website. This is the fifth book on legal technology that Tredennick has written or edited. In 1990, he was Editor in Chief and a writer in Winning with Computers: Trial Practice in the Twenty-First Century, a best seller published by the American Bar Association. In 1991 he released volume two of Winning with Computers, which was followed by a trial practice guide called How to Prepare for Take and Use a Deposition at Trial, (James Publishing 1992) which he wrote with his law partner Bob Benson. In 2000, John wrote The Lawyer's Guide to Spreadsheets, which was published by Glasser LegalWorks, a subsidiary of Thomson West Publishing Company. That book focused on Excel 2000 and was a predecessor to the current book. "I have a passion for teaching lawyers about legal technology that drove me to write these books," Tredennick explained. "I do a lot of speaking engagements all over the world and these books help set the stage for my teaching. When I hear from readers that my books helped them move forward in using technology, that makes my day." For six years in the 1990s, Tredennick was also Articles Editor and Editor in Chief of Law Practice Management Magazine, a monthly magazine published by the Law Practice Management Section of the American Bar Association. He also founded and was editor in chief of Law Practice Today, www.lawpracticetoday.org, the ABA web magazine focusing on legal technology and Law practice management issues.
