Catalyst Announces Integrated Managed Review Services for Large Scale Foreign and English Language Review
News 2008

Catalyst Review Services Provides an Innovative Approach to First Pass Review, Helping Corporations and Law Firms Control Costs and Reduce Initial Discovery Data Sets by Up to 90 Percent.

Denver, Colorado, August 22, 2008-Catalyst Repository Systems today announced the launch of Catalyst Review Services, a first-of-its-kind review management service that combines Catalyst's advanced analytics with a global review team that can handle over 150 languages.

Catalyst is certifying some of the world's most sophisticated review teams on its Catalyst CR review management platform to offer the first hybrid review management services model for the legal industry. The combination of substantive and review technology expertise brings unparalleled speed, quality, consistency and pricing predictability to discovery management.

"Attorneys who do review for a living, do it well, but-given the shear quantity of potentially discoverable electronic data-substantive experience and judgment alone are no longer enough," said Jeff Parkhurst, Catalyst's Director of Review Services. "Catalyst Reviewers are trained and will conduct the entire review using Catalyst CR to streamline the review and enhance productivity."

Catalyst begins the process by using its advanced analytics capabilities to cluster the review documents into similar groups. Clients have the option of the traditional static clustering of the entire population or "key document" clustering based on important documents selected by the client. In either case, Catalyst can cluster against individual custodians or across an unlimited population of documents.

"Initial clustering brings two benefits to the review process," explained John Tredennick, Catalyst's CEO and a trial lawyer and litigation partner for more than 20 years. "First, by grouping documents into similar clusters, we can improve review speed dramatically. Second, using key document clustering we can segregate documents that are more likely to be relevant to the case and put the review focus there. The other, less likely to be relevant documents can still be reviewed but we can put our best troops on the most important population."

Catalyst CR provides reviewers the benefits of speed, scalability and sub-second search times with advanced analytics and reporting capabilities. Catalyst CR is built for native review and does not require any upfront conversion. Standard files (email, Office and about 300 other file types) are converted automatically to HTML for rapid review in your browser. Reviewers often attain sustained review speeds of over 200 documents per hour.

Moreover, clients and their legal teams have access to the system throughout the entire review to monitor progress, review key documents and collaborate on the case.

"Review is the most costly area of litigation. Our goal is to work with clients to control these costs and make sure that all relevant documents are reviewed accurately and consistently," noted Tredennick. "Catalyst's integrated approach provides the most value for clients with predictable budgets and a single point of accountability throughout the entire lifecycle of a discovery project."

The benefits of the combined technology and project management workflow include:

  • Front-end analytics and clustering to eliminate spam and other irrelevant documents and organize content prior to the review.
  • Foreign Language Review Expertise to dramatically reduce the cost and time associated with reviewing foreign documents. Catalyst foreign language reviewers are fluent in over 150 languages.
  • Centralized Project Management and Reporting to ensure a consistent, high-quality review that will save you time and money over traditional methods.
  • Defined Project Pricing to allow you to create a budget model that will help you accurately predict the costs upfront and adjust as necessary should the scope of the project change midstream.
