Catalyst CEO Named Top Tech Entrepreneur of the Year
News 2009

Denver, Colorado, June 16, 2009. Catalyst Repository Systems announced today that John Tredennick, Catalyst's founder and CEO, was named the Top Tech Entrepreneur of the Year by the Colorado Software and Internet Association (CSIA) at their annual Apex Awards event. These awards recognize outstanding accomplishments and leadership by Colorado's advanced technology companies and professionals.

"The CSIA is the largest and most influential technology industry association in Colorado," noted Larry Barela, Catalyst's Chief Technology Officer. "Colorado is home to more than 5,500 hardware and software companies with a combined payroll of over $6 billion, so the organization has a broad reach," he added. "And, there are over 175,000 IT professionals across the state."

"I was surprised and honored to receive this award," said John Tredennick. "There were 32 finalists from companies like Avaya, Sun, Frontier, Qwest and Liberty Media up for just a small handful of awards that the Association gave out. To even be considered as a finalist among this prestigious crowd was more than I could have asked for. In truth, this award is due to the efforts of the Catalyst team, many of whom have been together for more than 15 years. They make all this exciting technology and they are the ones providing the superior services that have made our company successful."

In giving the award, CSIA President Su Hawk noted, "John identified a growing problem in his industry and used technology to solve the issue for his firm. He then created a company where the products are used by many of the largest organizations in the world, including five of the world's 10 largest companies, four of the nation's 10 largest insurers and 60 of the nation's 100 largest law firms." She concluded, "John and all of this year's winners demonstrate the success, innovation, leadership and determination that is the core of Colorado's technology industry."

About John Tredennick

John Tredennick has spoken before more national and international audiences on legal and technology issues than he or anyone else can remember. He's written and edited five best-selling books and countless articles on litigation and technology issues and was recently named one of the Top 100 Global Technology Leaders by London's CityTech magazine based on input from legal technology professionals around the world.

John began his career as a trial lawyer and partner with one of the largest law firms in the Rocky Mountains. In 1995 he became the firm's Chief Information Officer (CIO), the first in the country for a major law firm, while remaining a litigation partner. His passion for finding ways to use technology to improve law practice led the firm to international prominence as a technology leader.

In 1992 John created an internal division at the firm that offered litigation services and trial consulting. Not long after, his team began developing client extranets to help manage complex litigation. Soon, the firm had scores of litigation extranets in operation. The idea of Catalyst, a spin-off company providing secure collaboration repositories for the case, deal and document management, was simply inevitable.

John recently served as Chair of the ABA's Law Practice Management Section. For many years he edited Law Practice Management magazine, a monthly publication of the American Bar Association focusing on legal technology and management issues. More recently, he founded and edited Law Practice Today, a widely-read ABA Webzine that focuses on electronic discovery and other legal technology and management issues.
