Catalyst to Serve on Industry Advisory Board to Develop Advanced Search, Analytics and Concept Search Techniques for the E-Discovery MarketDENVER—November 2, 2010—Catalyst Repository Systems, Inc., (www.catalystsecure.com), a pioneer in providing cloud-based document repositories for e-discovery and other complex legal matters, today announced that it has been named a founding sponsor and advisor for a newly formed think tank focused on cutting-edge analytics and concept-search techniques. The Center for Intelligent Systems and Machine Learning (CISML) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, selected Catalyst to serve as a founding member of its Industrial Advisory Board. Catalyst and CISML will collaborate on research into enhanced analytical and conceptual tools for e-discovery search and information retrieval. The selection reflects Catalyst's longtime leadership in helping to advance search technology for e-discovery and litigation support. Catalyst was among the first e-discovery companies to integrate conceptual search and then went on to develop proprietary clustering and key-concept tools that are among the most powerful in the industry. Formed July 1, 2010, the CISML (http://cisml.utk.edu) focuses on designing computer-based systems that exhibit intelligent behavior, operate autonomously and adapt to environmental changes. The center serves as the hub of collaborative research involving faculty from three colleges and five departments of the university. Examples of the CISML's diverse areas of research include pattern recognition, robotics, artificial intelligence, biologically inspired cognitive architectures, bioinformatics and data mining. CISML's associate director, Dr. Michael W. Berry, said that the center sought Catalyst's participation on the Advisory Board because of the company's leadership in furthering search technologies and infrastructure. Prof. Berry and Catalyst recently collaborated on research into the use of nonnegative matrix factorization for document clustering and classification. That research produced joint conference papers and a book chapter on the origins and future of e-discovery search. "The work being done by Prof. Berry and others at CISML complements the research we have been pursuing at Catalyst for a number of years," said John Tredennick, Catalyst's CEO. "By supporting and working with this innovative new center, we will be able to further enhance the power and 'intelligence' of the search tools we provide our clients." In addition to serving on CISML's Industrial Advisory Board, Catalyst will help sponsor its research. The relationship will allow Catalyst to collaborate with CISML faculty and students on research that is of mutual interest. Catalyst will have access to all public domain software developed within the center and exposure to top graduate and undergraduate students for possible internships or hires.
