A veteran trial lawyer and pioneer in legal technology, Jim Eidelman is the principal consultant of Catalyst Consulting. With more than three decades of hands-on experience providing technology advice to law firms and legal departments, he helps clients develop strategies to overcome their toughest e-discovery challenges.
After starting out as a securities litigator, Jim launched a consulting firm in 1980 dedicated to helping lawyers enhance their practices through technology. He became recognized nationwide as a speaker and writer on legal technology. The book he co-edited with John Tredennick, Winning with Computers, became an ABA bestseller. Software he developed for legal-document assembly was said to have the ability to "think like a lawyer."
At Catalyst Consulting, Jim works with clients to overcome their most daunting e-discovery obstacles. By applying smart-searching methods and software analytics, he helps lawyers cut down and prioritize huge document sets. With the benefit of Jim's informed and creative guidance, Catalyst clients have improved the efficiency of their document reviews by as much as 100 percent.
Jim's skill lies in crafting unique technology solutions for the e-discovery problems his clients face. Jim developed a privilege-search engine with the "smarts" to also find nicknames and variations of names. He created a predictive-ranking tool that identifies and prioritizes the documents most likely to be responsive. His predominant-language detection program helps eliminate unnecessary foreign reviewer costs.
Jim has special experience in assisting clients with searches of Japanese, Korean and Chinese documents. His experience was highlighted at a recent International Legal Technology Association conference, where he spoke on, "Mastering Multi-Language Review."
