More About Catalyst CR
Search

A Catalyst search spans multiple servers, each working as part of a larger grid. This allows us to tune each server to provide sub-second response, even for larger, more complex queries.

Speed

We asked one of the leading Silicon Valley search organizations to benchmark our search speed against fifteen million documents (about 60 million pages). The tests involved approximately 200,000 queries of between 500 and 750 terms. Fully 99.9065% came back in under a second. Most of the rest came back in under 2 seconds.

Scalability

Build your searches using any combination of fields and text, including date and Bates number ranges, proximity and wild cards. Your searches can have as many as 60,000 characters.

Focus

We provide a number of useful ways to refine your search.

  • Focus results: Modify your query to narrow the results.
  • Key concepts: View key concepts from your results and drill down by concept.
  • Field Navigators: See counts for key fields, e.g. authors and drill into results.
  • Text Navigators: See key text extracted from your results set, including email domains and addresses, names, organizations and locations.
  • Sub-collections: Search based on user security rights.
  • Search by range: Use dates or Bates numbers.
  • Proximity search: Create searches such as word1 near/5 word2 near/10 word3.

Multi-Language Search

Search across more than 70 languages with a single, combined query. Results are displayed in the original languages both for document text and document metadata. We support the CJK languages (Chinese, Japanese and Korean), Western European languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, etc.), along with Russian, Hebrew, Arabic and a host of others.

Functionality

Our search syntax is simple and can be modified to fit your needs.

  • Customize search connectors, e.g. use co, contains, eq, =.
  • Combine values to make creating a search easier, e.g. author contains (smith or jones or douglas or ....)
  • Create ranges, e.g. date between (03/15/04, 07/22/07)
  • Create multi-proximity searches, e.g. word1 near/10 word2 near/5 word3.
  • Group complex searches using parentheses.
  • Search sub-collections based on user security rights.
  • Search by range using dates or Bates numbers.

You can save searches as public, private or shared or access your recent searches from a dropdown menu. All searches are tracked in an audit table.
